The Lubuk Minturun area in Koto Tangah District, Padang City, will be appointed as a florist village by the Government of the City of Padang, W Sumatra.
"There are 500 families in Lubuk Minturun who are engaged in the development of ornamental plants, it's more than Tomohon, which is only 135," said Head of the Padang City Agriculture Office, Syaiful Bahri, in Padang on Friday.
According to him it was time for ornamental plants in Padang to be developed more seriously than just a hobby to become a commodity that has high economic value.
"In Padang there is a turnover of ornamental plant traders, which reaches billions of rupiah per month to fill markets in W Sumatra to neighboring provinces," he said.
The appointed of Lubuk Minturun as Floris Village coincides with the 2019 Floriculture Festival, which was held on September 6 to 9, 2019, attended by hundreds of ornamental plant activists in the archipelago.
Meanwhile, Head Execuive of the Public Relations Division of the Padang City Government, Edi Darma, said that as many as 22 centers of ornamental plants in Indonesia will participate in the 2019 Floriculture located at the Padang City Hall Office.
This activity will be opened by the Director General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture, attended by the Director of Fruits and Flora, Deputy for Agriculture and Food Ministry of Economic Affairs RI accompanied by Deputy Assistant of PSP and Assistant Deputy for Plantation and Horticulture.
He conveyed that the 2019 Indonesian Floriculture was an exhibition as well as a gathering of flower entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia.
The activities are packaged in the form of performing arts and cultural performance stands, music art, mass dance, high school band, gamad, demo and learning the flower hobby.
