Padang Panjang (ANTARA) - Cultural attractions at the opening of the National Cultural Camp (KBN) activity in Padang Panjang City, W Sumatra on Monday, broke the record for the Indonesian World Record Museum (Muri) in the most dancers.

The cultural attraction was presented by students from the elementary school to senior high school (SMA) totaling 2,200 people.

MURI manager, Triyono in Padang Panjang on Monday said the previous record was held by Sijunjung Regency in the same category with the number of dancers totaling 1,900 people.

According to him, an important part of the record is the effort to introduce and maintain the preservation of regional culture.

He assessed cultural attractions by involving thousands of students as a step for local governments to introduce regional arts and culture to children.

"We at MURI have special attention on the filing of records which are related to culture, because that is one way to foster pride in regional culture," he said.

Cultural attractions presented in various forms of dance formations using property in the form of umbrellas, nyiru and plates depict joy and togetherness in accordance with the purpose of KBN activities that are followed by participants from all provinces in Indonesia.

Padang Panjang Mayor, Fadly Amran said the attractions displayed and the series of activities that would be followed by students at KBN from 26 to 31 August 2019 were expected to foster a love for the nation's cultural diversity.

"We hope that the children involved in this activity can play a role as agents who help foster a love of national culture for the people around them," he said.

The MURI record that was gotten was also offered to a student who died in a work accident that collapsed the sound system tower while preparing for the exercise for the cultural attraction on Sunday, August 25. (*)
