Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2019 Tour de Singkarak (TdS) which will take place on November 2-10, 2019 will be an event to promote tourism in two provinces, namely West Sumatra and Jambi.

"TdS this year has entered its 11th year and has expanded its reach to nine stages across 16 districts and cities in W Sumatra and two districts in Jambi," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a press release received in Jakarta on Thursday.

TdS is a sports tourism with a total prize of Rp 2.3 billion, which effectively promotes tourism, by displaying cultural, culinary and sports attractions.

Ministry of Tourism Arief Yahya explained, the implementation of TdS has the advantage of being the largest international cycling sport tourism activity in Indonesia.

"TdS has high media value so it has an impact in promotion and imaging of W Sumatra and Jambi tourism destinations," Arief Yahya said.

He said, to optimize the media value, the promotion strategy must be strengthened during pre-post-on (POP) activities, each with a budget allocation of 70 percent, 20 percent, and 10 percent.

W Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said, W Sumatra had 49 excellent activities, 3 of which included in the 100 Wonderful Events that were held throughout the year in 19 districts / cities in W Sumatra.

The three featured activities are the Pasa Harau Art and Cultural Festival, the Tour de Singkarak (TdS), and the Minangkabau Cultural Festival.

These three activities are included in the 100 Wonderful Events and will be a magnet in bring about tourists to W Sumatra this year targeting 58,447 foreign tourists and 8.4 million movements of Nusantara tourists.

"TdS 2019 is W Sumatra's flagship activity. This year we are collaborating with Jambi Province. Two districts in Jambi namely Kerinci and Sungai Penuh will be traversed. This is an opportunity to promote Jambi tourism, "said Irwan Prayitno.

The three leading activities of West Sumatra which are included in the 100 Wonderful Event 2019 besides TdS 2019 as well as the Pasa Harau Art and Cultural Festival will take place in Lima Puluh Kota District on August 16-18, 2019.

In organizing this cultural festival will be shown, among others, Harau Performing Art, Harau Adventure Run (Harau Network), Pacu Jawi, and Harau Exploration.

Meanwhile the organization of the Minangkabau Culture Enchantment Festival will take place in Tanah Datar Regency on 4-7 December 2019. (*)
