West Sumatra now has a disaster evacuation fast ship

Padang (ANTARA) -

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) provides fast boat assistance to the West Sumatra Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to strengthen the disaster evacuation fleet in the area.

"We really needs a fast boat that can be moved immediately in the event of a disaster," W Sumatra Deputy Governor Nasrul Abit said in Padang on Friday.

He said W Sumatra had seas and lakes and the Mentawai region in the form of islands. Therefore the evacuation fleet is not only needed on land, but also at sea.

The assistance is considered to be very supportive of the performance of W Sumatra BPBD for disaster management in the regions.

He appreciated the Head of W Sumatra BPBD, Erman Rahman who was considered capable of establishing good communication with BNPB so that he could get the assistance that was really needed by the region.

Head of W Sumatra BPBD Managing Director Erman Rahman informed that the speedboat had a width of around 2.5 meters and a length of 6 meters, equipped with evacuation equipment, clean water facilities and sanitation.

The ship is equipped with 2 X 200cc engine capacity, global positioning system (GPS) for navigation, compass, communication tools and other safety devices.

In the future the ship will also be equipped with medical equipment so that it can immediately help in the event of a disaster.

The ship was temporarily moored at the Port of Muara, Batang Arau, Berok Nipah, in Padang.
