Padang (ANTARA) - Two districts in W Sumatra, Solok Selatan and Pasaman Barat, were separated from the status of underdeveloped regions in 2019 until the province left only one more area which is projected to be able to exit in 2020.

The certainty of the two districts was stifled from being left behind after the Village Minister, Development of Underdeveloped Regions, and Transmigration issued Decree Number 79 of 2019 concerning Determination of Exit from Underdeveloped Regions.

Deputy Governor of W Sumatra Nasrul Abit said that the release of the two districts from underdeveloped regions was due to the persistence of the local government and the local community, as well as uninterrupted coordination with the province.

A number of programs are implemented in an integrated manner to reduce aspects of underdevelopment including through improving facilities and infrastructure for education, health, economic services, telecommunication transportation, information and connectivity, and also increasing the independence of rural communities through empowerment.

The hard and unyielding work, according to Nasrul, has now produced sweet results with the removal of two districts and underdeveloped regions.

However, according to him, the work has not been completed because the regions which have been stalled from underdevelopment will still be fostered by government institutions for the next three years.

Based on data from the Village Minister, Development of Underdeveloped Regions, and Transmigration issued Decree Number 79 of 2019, along with Solok Selatan and Pasaman Barat there are 60 other districts that have been successfully staged from 2015-2019.

Now according to Nasrul, there is only one regency that still has a status left behind in W Sumatra, namely the Mentawai Islands Regency.

But he believes that by 2020 the area can also be overcome from underdevelopment, especially with active regional and central participation.

"Next year there is a possibility that there will be additional road infrastructure in the Mentawai so that all regions can be connected. This is important for equitable development in various fields, "he said.

The construction will be a big capital to release lagging status.
