Padang (ANTARA) - UNESCO World Heritage Ombilin Coal Mine, Sawahlunto in West Sumatra will be managed by a special body involving the central government, regions, universities and communities.

"It was one of the results of a follow-up coordination meeting to establish the 'Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto," West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said from Padang on Monday.

According to him the World Natural Heritage Management Agency, World Cultural Heritage and Cultural Heritage Not World Objects consists of the Coordinating Team of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Minister / Head of relevant Institutions, Regional Government and community elements.

The proposed Implementation Team is chaired by the Deputy for Cultural Coordination of the Ministry of PMK and Deputy Chair I is the Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture, and Deputy Chair II is the Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

While the fields in the management body consist of the fields of Protection, Development and Utilization, which are chaired by each echelon II. The relevant Ministries / Institutions can involve elements from higher education institutions and the community.

In addition, It needs an action plan is followed by program, activities, regional and central budgets to be proposed in the RPJMN 2020-2024.

Also need commitment and time line in meeting the decisions of the World Heritage Committee along with recommendations from Advisory Bodies (IUCN, ICOMOS and ICCROM).

Irwan believes that several decisions taken at the coordination meeting will have a positive impact on the management of World Heritage in W Sumatra.

Moreover, in one of the agreements also the Ombilin Mine Cultural Heritage will also be proposed as a National Tourism Strategic Zone.

This is in line with the focus of W Sumatra's current development that leads to tourism. (*)
