Payakumbuh City Government brought Malaysian fertilizer producers

Payakumbuh (ANTARA) - The Government of Payakumbuh is determined to develop technological innovations in agriculture to bring prosperity to farmers.

"Our agriculture is far behind. If there is a new technology that gives hope to farmers, we need to develop it, "said Payakumbuh Mayor, Riza Falepi in Payakumbuh, on Tuesday.

The determination was initiated by Payakumbuh Government by bringing in one of the producers of agricultural products and livestock from Malaysia.

"A country that is more advanced than our agricultural technology like Malaysia, Thailand, is what we are looking for," he said.

He wants farmers to be able to produce large quantities of farm produce at competitive and quality prices.

"When producing, the target volume and price is the most competitive, this is our target so that the rather cheap price can be compensated with high productivity," he explained.

He gave an example that if one hectare of land could produce 6 or 7 tons of rice with innovation in agriculture, it would produce more production volumes.

"If you want to be competitive with large volumes and low prices will be able to export," he said.

He said that although the increase in rice prices was not high but large volumes, it would still bring new prosperity to farmers.

"This is the material of our thinking and the technology from which we have to take it as long as it can be applied in our place," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Payakumbuh City Food Security Department, Edvidel Arda said the products brought by Malaysian producers will be tested first at the Payakumbuh City Government land.

"If there is an increase in results, we will offer the information to the public," he said.
