Padang (ANTARA) - Determination ofOmbilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto as a UNESCO World Heritage is believed to have a positive influence on tourism in W Sumatra, said Head of W Sumatra Tourism Office, Oni Yulfian.

"Post-determination, many will find out about Ombilin. This will be a very extraordinary promotion, not only for Sawahlunto but also W Sumatra, "he said in Padang on Monday.

According to him promotion is the most important part of tourism development that must be done. "Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto" took a very big role for that, he said.

"Previously we already had Tour de Singkarak (TdS) which had also known to the international world. Now added to the world cultural heritage. Hopefully the positive effects will be felt soon, "he said.

Previously, W Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno after attending the 43rd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Congress Center Building at Baku, Azerbaijan, on Saturday, July 6 said the provincial government and community were proud of the determination.

He asked all parties to take part in safeguarding the world heritage so that they could still provide additional knowledge on the techniques and workings of colonial-era coal mines in Sawahlunto for the next generation.

In addition, he also hopes that "Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto" also contributes to the progress of regional tourism.

The determination was made on the right momentum because the world of Indonesian tourism, including W Sumatra was shaken because of expensive domestic flight ticket policies.

The target of tourist visits to W Sumatra in 2019 in accordance with the Medium Term Development Plan is 57,087 people for foreign tourists and 8,476,724 domestic tourists.

Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto is the 5th UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in Indonesia after Candi Borobudur (1991), Candi Prambanan (1991), Situs Sangiran (1996), Subak system at Bali (2012). (*)
