Pariaman (ANTARA) - The Pariaman satay cooking competition is included in the agenda of the Festival Pesona Gandoriah which will be held by the Pariaman City Government, West Sumatra from June 29 to July 3, 2019.

"The contestants are satay traders, Pariaman residents, as well as delegates from the village or kelurahan in the local city," said the Head of Tourism Promotion and Cooperation, the local Tourism and Culture Office in Pariaman, Monday.

He said that the satay cooking competition had been appointed because the area had satay which had distinctive characteristics from other regions.

In fact, he continued, the typical Pariaman satay has been sold in districts and cities in West Sumatra, so it is known by the wider community which is often called "Sate Ajo".

For that, he continued, in order to enliven the Festival Pesona Gandoriah, he included the satay cooking contest in the annual event.

"We provide compensation for participants, and so far there have been many traders and residents who have registered to take part in this competition," he said.

He conveyed the implementation of the competition was also to promote to the wider community that satay from the area is safe for consumption.

Previously, the Pariaman City Government scheduled to carry out the Festival Pesona Gandoriah 2019 on June 29 to July 3 by carrying out eight competitions to attract tourists to the area.

"This festival is the fifth time since 2015," he said.

He said for the festival which was held this year eight competitions were held, namely the Pariaman Satay culinary festival, concrete canoe competition, randai, tourist attraction photos, Monkey climbs coconut , children's creativity, Gandoriah Fiesta, and Minang songs.

He said that for this year's festival held at Pantai Gandoriah, the total prizes provided for the eight competitions reached IDR 100 million.
