Painan (ANTARA) - The price of garlic in Pesisir Selatan Regency, W Sumatra has broken the price of Rp120 thousand per kilogram ahead of the entry of Ramadan 1440 Hijriah, even though previously this commodity was sold at Rp60 thousand per kilogram.

A buyer at Kambang Market, Lengayang District, said on Saturday "Because the price is expensive, I only buy Rp. 10 thousand garlic,".

He said that this price doubled if compared to yesterday's price of only Rp60,000 per kilogram.

He hopes the government will immediately take appropriate action so that the increase in garlic prices was uncontrolled and had an impact on the prices of other needs.

Meanwhile, Head of Trade, Cooperative Agency, UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) ,Pesisir Selatan Trade and Industry Office, Hendro said the price of garlic will continue to skyrocket along with its limited supply.

He claimed to continue to report price developments to related agencies in the provincial government including garlic.

This is done so that officials in the provincial government are aware of price developments in the region and immediately take appropriate actions.

It noted that the price of garlic in the area began to rise since mid March 2019 and continuously increased.

The normal price of garlic is only Rp20 thousand per kilogram but since mid-March it has risen to Rp24 thousand per kilogram.

Next, the end of March will be Rp28 thousand per kilogram, early April Rp32 thousand per kilogram, until the end of April to Rp50 thousand per kilogram and at the beginning of May 3 the price will still be Rp60 per kilogram.
