W Sumatra Embraces Filmmakers To Promote Tourism Sector

Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - West Sumatra Provincial Government embraces dozens of filmmakers to help in promoting regional tourism through the works that they produce.

"We believe the promotion through the film will be very effective because of the good audio and visual experience which will be sticky in audience's memory," Head of Tourism Office of West Sumatra Oni Yulfian stated here on Friday.

It is expected that if there are many good films set of West Sumatra tourist destinations so that there will be more tourists that are attracted to visit Ranah Minang.

"It is also in line with the target of tourist arrivals which is continuously improved every year. It is targeted that the number of visits reaches 8.2 million tourists in 2018 or it rises quite high from the target of 2017 that only 7.6 million people.

"We are optimistic with a good promotion, this target can be achieved," Oni remarked.

In order to make the films produced by filmmakers to be qualified, they are brewed in the 2018 West Sumatra Film Festival (SURFIVAL) Workshop for three days, on June 28-30.

The workshop presented a number of speakers who are experts in their respective field of screenwriter from West Sumatra, S, Metron who can write a screenplay class, and production management class that will be managed by Elsa Rahmadani (Production Manager of Relair Cinema).

While in the directing class, the participants will receive a lot of directing insight from one of Indonesia's leading directors, Jason Iskandar.

The workshop of the movie titled "Pesona Tanah Tapian" is a series of SURFIVAL activities which is the annual agenda of West Sumatra Tourism Office and it has entered the third year.

Previously in the series of SURFIVAL, it has done movie roadshow in Padang Municipality, Payakumbuh and Painan.

Later, after roadshows and film workshops, there will also be facilitation of film production by submitting proposals for production design. The proposal is selected through the selection of curator team. (cha)
