Foodstuffs Affected Deflation in Bukittinggi

Bukittinggi, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Bukittinggi Municipality, West Sumatra noted the area experienced 0.39 percent deflation in May 2018 which donated by foodstuffs group.

"Foodstuffs greatly affected deflation in Bukittinggi despite of five other spending groups rising in the index," Head of Bukittinggi, Mukhlis stated in here on Monday.

During May 2018, local BPS noted that the prices of various commodities in the area are stable.

However, there was a decrease in prices in the foodstuffs group especially in spices.

The biggest decrease in price occurs in red chili, onion, garlic, green chili, cayenne pepper, potato, tuna, jengkol, petai and other commodities.

On the other hand, the index increases in five expenditure groups namely food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel.

Furthermore, it also happens on clothing groups, health groups as well as education, recreation, and sports groups.

Some commodities that experience price increases are chicken, gold jewelry, chicken eggs, oranges, tomatoes, portable computers, house rents, carrots, raw chips and other commodities.

In general, from 82 cities of the consumer price index (CPI) in May 2018, 65 cities experienced inflation and 17 other cities experienced deflation.

Bukittinggi is ranked 20th in Sumatra and 79th in Indonesia. (cha)
