W Sumatra To Take Society Opinion Related To SEZ Development

Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - West Sumatra Provincial Government will still take in input and opinion from the community related to development of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the area so as to truly provide benefits and increase prosperity.

"The development of SEZ will be followed by regional economic growth so that other economic sectors are also passionate. The benefits can be felt directly by community," Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Nasrul Abit stated in here, on Tuesday.

Concretely, the emerging economies will increase people's incomes and open jobs.

While for the regions, there is an increase in taxes, especially income taxes, direct taxes, and indirect taxes.

Investors who want to develop SEZ in Mentawai also expressed its seriousness to invest up to more than 10 trillion, he noted.

It will be very beneficial to encourage the development of supporting infrastructure in areas such as roads, ports and airports.

"We must understand that the role of investors is needed in regional development, but at the same time the government will ensure that the investment will benefit local community," he explained.

Input from community and student components concerning the marginalization of the community rather than benefiting will remain a consideration by local government.

Recommendations to central government related to SEZ development will be provided after all problems in the region are completed, especially land and amdal issues.

Earlier, Regent of Mentawai Yudas Sabaggalet mentioned the development of SEZ in the area of Taileleu, Siberut Barat Sub-district, Mentawai Islands has been through the study.

Local government noted that there are 2,639 hectares of land to be developed, 2,533 hectares have been released, while the remaining of 86 hectares are still in the process of negotiation.
