W Sumatra Bulog Guarantees Availability of Rice Stock During Ramadhan

Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Logistics Agency (Bulog) of West Sumatra guarantees the availability of rice stock to anticipate the possibility of price spike ahead of Ramadhan (fasting month) and Eid al-Fitr 1439 Hijriah.

"Our stock in the warehouse is currently 9,000 tons and there will be an additional of 9,000 tons later which is sufficient for the needs of Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr," West Sumatra Bulog Chief, Suharto Djabar said in here, on Monday.

According to him, the stock of rice will be distributed to the market if there is a scarcity that causes price spikes at any time. This is done to stabilize the price of basic necessities so as not to burden the public.

In addition to rice, West Sumatra Bulog also ensures the availability of other commodities such as cooking oil, sugar and frozen meat.

For sugar, Bulog has 2,000 tons of stock which divided into packages of one kilogram to 50 kilograms, at the highest retail price (HET) set by the government at Rp12,500 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the stock of frozen meat reached 31 tons and it is believed to fulfill the needs of community. The selling price according to HET is set at Rp80,000 per kilogram.

Frozen meat stocks will be added if the community's response to the commodity is good enough.

Bulog becomes one of the parties that has a vital role in maintaining the stability of basic necessities price during Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr.

In the last two years, with good coordination with local government and related parties, the price of staple goods in West Sumatra has remained stable.

It was appreciated by the people who previously complained of price spur ahead of Ramadhan especially for chili and meat. (cha)
