Bukittinggi Experienced 0.12 Percent Inflation in April 2018

Bukittinggi, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Bukittinggi Municipality, West Sumatra noted the area experienced inflation of 0.12 percent in April 2018.

The Head of the local BPS, Mukhlis in Bukittinggi, said that inflation occurs due to an increase in the index across all spending groups.

The expenditure groups are food, clusters, food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco groups, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups.

Furthermore, clothing group, health group, education, recreation and sport group, as well as transportation, communication and financial services group.

Some of the commodities that experienced the biggest price increase during April 2018 were red chili, gasoline, dencis fish, chicken meat, garlic, gold jewelry, clove cigarette filter and apple.

While other commodities that are also frequent contributors to inflation such as red chili and onion which have decreased in price during the month.

The mayor of Bukittinggi, M Ramlan Nurmatias had previously made sure that the basic needs of community will safe especially during Ramadhan (fasting month) 1439 Hijriah.

"In the event of turbulence, we have coordinated with Bulog to deploy low-cost markets to keep the prices of basic commodities stable," he explained.

He said Bukittinggi is not a producer area so that it is necessary to coordinate with the producing regions in order to fulfill people needs.

"For example, we coordinated with Agam District for the distribution of red chili and beef," he pointed out.

In Ramadhan, there is a tendency of basic needs prices to rise. Because of that condition, he reminded people to shop as needed, not desire. (cha)
