Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - A number of Joint Farmers Groups which are built by Provincial Government of West Sumatra are ready to provide 20 tons of rice a month to fulfill the needs of Batam Municipality, Riau Islands according to a two-region agreement, Chief of Economy Bureau Heri Nofiardi stated.

"We are ready to channel every month according to the agreement, but the cooperation agreement must be clear," he said in Padang on Sunday.

The cooperation agreement regulates the availability of rice every month, the payment system and distribution mechanism to be used.

The plan to send rice to Batam will be done by using air transport from Minangkabau International Airport. That option is considered because the cost is less than the overland delivery.

Batam and West Sumatra Province together will write to Batam-Padang route airlines to consider the compensation in the delivery of rice, because it will be done continuously every month.

West Sumatra will involve BUMD, possibly PT Grafika to coordinate traders and Joint Farmers Groups which will be part of the cooperation in the distribution of rice from West Sumatra to Batam.

In addition to cooperation rice, it can be extended to the field of food supply, distribution of goods, services and tourism development. (cha)
