Parit Malintang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Coconut processing industry in Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra is able to export 250 tons of coconut fiber per month to several Asian countries such as China and Taiwan.

"Coconut fiber is sold at Rp2,350 million per ton," coconut processing entrepreneur, Buyung Pasni (54) stated.

He said to achieve 250 ton production target, he cooperated with several coconut processing entrepreneurs.

The coconut fibers that are delivered are still dried raw materials that have been separated with the powder, and the sale is still to the second party, while the delivery is through the port of Lampung and Belawan.

"If we can export directly, the price is much higher, but until now it has not been able to penetrate it," he remarked.

Padang Pariaman is still the largest coconut producing area in the province, so its fiber processing potential is also high.

He advises coconut owners to have their husk processed instead of burned or just stacked in the fields. It can give additional income to the community.

In addition to fibers, he said powder from coconut husk can also be sold to one company in Pekanbaru at Rp1,600 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, Head of Department of Integrated and Industrial Services of Padang Pariaman District, Hendra Aswara said it will seek coconut processing industry players to offer to investors.

"Investors have offered to invest in Padang Pariaman and they are asking industry players who can produce coconut fiber which reaches 250 tons per week," he pointed out.

In order to fulfill the target, he suggested the coconut coir processing industry to work together to be able to produce as many investors demanded. (cha)
