Padang Panjang Focuses on Livestock Breeding Activities

Padang Panjang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of Padang Panjang Municipality, West Sumatra focuses on livestock breeding activities in 2018 on the expansion of dairy products and marketing.

Head of Food and Agriculture Agency of Padang Panjang, Syahdanur in Padang Panjang, on Monday, said that the city government has been working with the central government and private sector to expand the market.

With the cooperation, dairy farmers will be assisted through training to develop dairy products.

Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health at local Department of Food and Agriculture, Wahid added that currently dairy products produced by breeder groups include yogurt, kefir, milk candy, milk pie, ice cream and others.

"We will develop a new product called gouda cheese and mozarella this year. From the cooperation with central government, it is planned that the training for production for the breeder group will start in April 2018," he explained.

Currently, equipment for cheese processing has been in Padang Panjang and will be tested first before use.

"On March 20 to 21, we try to make gouda and mozarella cheese from 50 liters of milk, and then give such training for breeder group," he noted.

He explained the dairy products of the area is still marketed simply in the sense of not entering the supermarket or hotel due to lack of marketing authorization.

Sales of dairy products are currently through cooperatives and oulets, the dairy house, which is managed by the community. (cha)
