Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar)- Cement producer PT Semen Padang has set a profit target at Rp600 billion this year with improvement in efficiency and innovation amid the tight competition.
"We will continue innovation, improving efficiency with new technology to turn out cement, which will dry quicker that construction would be faster," Yosviandri, the chief executive of the subsidiary of the state owned PT Semen Indonesia, the country`s largest cement producer, said here on Monday.
The company will rely more on efficiency and innovation to reach the profit target, Yosviandri said addressing a ceremony commemorating the 108th anniversary on March 18 of the company. He gave no figure for last year.
He said the competition in the cement market is tight in the country with a surplus of 35 million tons a year , but a company more than a century in age, would be more prepared for any challenges.
"Semen Padang is not doubted in quality but the consumers also want a cheaper price, therefore, efficiency is needed," he said.
Efficiency could still be improved and optimized in the process of production in its production units of Indarung II, III, IV, V and VI to be more competitive, he added.
"Indarung VI already uses a technology which is superior in efficiency as it could use low calorie coal for fuel," he said.
He said the company also could gain from the construction of the Trans Sumatra toll road that would need large supply of cement from PT Semen Padang.
Semen Padang, the last cement producer in Sumatra has also exported part of its cement production such as to Bangladesh. (*)
