Raflesia in Maninjau Has Attracted Researchers

Lubukbasung, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Natural Resource Conservation Center of Agam District, West Sumatra conveys the growth of Raflesia tuan-mudae Flower in Maninjau Nature Reserve in the area has attracted a number of parties to examine it.

"There are already students who are majoring in biology, forestry and others that are researching," Ecosystem Controller of Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Agam Resort, Ade Putra stated in Lubukbasung, Saturday.

He said in early March 2018, students of the National University of Jakarta conducted research on the biodiversity of mushroom species in the area.

While dozens of students of Padang State University also visited Raflesia flower growing site on Saturday.

In addition, students of Muhammadiyah University of West Sumatra will also conduct research at the end of March 2018.

"They researched about Raflesia and mammals around the site of growing rare flowers and have submitted a letter to BKSDA of West Sumatra for doing such research," he said.

In addition to the three universities, there are other college students who are exploring to conduct research, including Bandung Institute of Technology (IPB) Andalas University (Unand), University of Bengkulu and University of North Sumatra (USU).

He said for students who will conduct research at that location must submit a research proposal to BKSDA of West Sumatra.

Then, they must take care of permission to enter conservation area to BKSDA of West Sumatra.

In general, he added that the location of Raflesia tuan-mudae is in Marambuang, Nagari Baringin, Palembayan Sub-district.

Currently there are 43 flower buds of Raflesia in the location with an area of 2x2 meters and has bloomed about tens from the end of 2017 until March 2018.

"There are flowers that are blooming 84.8 centimeters in diameter since a week ago," he added. (cha)
