Lubukbasung, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Agam District, West Sumatera in 2018 has budgeted Rp3.99 billion to build irrigation channel and 28 ditches to irrigate 756 hectares of paddy fields owned by farmers.

Head of Field (Kabid) of Land Management, Water and Agricultural Machine Device of Agam Agriculture Agency, Ing Karyawan in Lubukbasung, Sunday, said the construction of 28 parcels of dam drain spread in nine sub-districts namely, Palembayan, Ampeknagari, Malalak, Ampekangkek, Baso, Ampekkoto , Tanjungmutiara and Canduang.

"The development is based on the proposal of the farmer group in 2017," he added.

Currently, his office is reviewing the construction site of the trench dam and construction will be done in March or April 2017.

One package dam spends a fund of Rp142.5 million and the fund comes from special allocation budget in 2018.

The development aims to regulate water so that farmers do not have difficulty in obtaining water in cultivating their land.

That way, they can cultivate the land three times each year, so it can increase their income.

"This is our target and to support the government's target every year to build a trench dam. In 2017, Agam will build 25 packages of dam and ditch with Rp4.06 billion fund," he added. (cha)
