Painan, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The Government of South Pesisir Government, West Sumatra targets 3,800 tons of fish catches in 2018, up 400 tons compared to 3,400 tons in 2017 target.

"The target is indeed rising but we are optimistic that the capture fishermen will fulfill it, because in 2017 they will be able to exceed the target with 3,436 tons catch," Head of Fishing Field, South Pesisir Fisheries Affair Afriman Julta stated in Painan on Monday.

Several sub-districts that are relied upon to be supporters in the fulfillment of the target are Koto XI Tarusan, Batang Kapas, Sutera, Ranah Pesisir, Lengayang and Linggo Sari Baganti.

Currently in the area, there are 215 vessel charts, 231 tonnage vessels, 301 paying boats, 205 trawlers and 1,570 small boats using outboard engines.

Supporting the catch of fishermen, throughout 2017 his side also several times handed over fishing gear with the hope of catching their catch.

Furthermore, in 2018, it will also submit 36 packages of aid budgeted through the Special Allocation Fund (DAK). Each aid package consists of boats, engines, nets and fishing gear.

Then, 50 units of outboard engines and 20 fishing nets, the aid was sourced from the principal fund of local district DPRD members.

It claims the local area is the most productive area in terms of fish catches throughout 2017 when compared with other regions in the province that share coastal areas.

Even the fish catches the market of six provinces on the island of Sumatra, namely Jambi, Bengkulu, North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra and the local provinces.

Of the six provinces, the fish are marketed to 23 districts or cities there, while in West Sumatra, South Pesisir fish is marketed to Padang City, Solok and Pariaman. (cha)
