Agam Targets 5,818 Artificial Insemination Livestocks

Lubukbasung, (Antaranews Sumbar) - Agam District, West Sumatra targets artificial insemination (IB) to 5,818 cattles and buffalos which are productive in 2018 as an effort to increase livestock population in the area.

"A total of 5,818 livestocks is spreading in 16 sub-districts," Afdal, Head of Agriculture Agency accompanied by Head of Livestock, Aguska Dwi Fajra stated in Lubukbasung on Thursday.

In order to achieve the target, the Livestock Service Office prepares facilities and infrastructures such as frozen semen (straw) of 8,727 doses, 4,000 liters of N2 liquid and 18 active officers.

Farmers who have cows or buffalos who are in the fertile period are asked to contact the officers.

"This is in accordance with the special effort program of mandatory breeder cows from central government," he said.

He added that the number of livestock population in Agam District is currently 54,940 livestocks, with details of 166 dairy cows, 32,280 cattles, 20,391 cows and 103 horses.

"These cattles belong to individuals, farmer groups, and others," he added. (cha)
