Padang, (Antaranews Sumbar) - The plan to propose the establishment of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Mentawai Islands District, West Sumatra, is just waiting for an analysis of environmental impact (Amdal), West Sumatra Vice Governor Nasrul Abit said in Padang on Tuesday. After the supporting documents are complete, he said, the Governor of West Sumatra will recommend to propose it to the SEZ Council, chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. "The EIA team is scheduled to start the discussion in mid-January 2018," he said. Nasrul said the seriousness of Mentawai Islands to form SEZ in the area is seen from the very fast process starting from the acquisition of land area of 2,600 hectares in Taileleu Siberut Island as well as other required permissions. Of the 18 types of permits for SEZ establishment such as marine and fishery permits, tourism and forestry, Mentawai has completed 16 permits, Amdal and recommendations from the governor. According to Nasrul Abit, Mentawai worthy to be developed into SEZ because it has great potential, one of them on the tourism sector.
