Bukittinggi To Conduct Tender Process for Jam Gadang Pedestrians Area

Bukittinggi, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Bukittinggi Municipality, West Sumatra will conduct a tender process for the construction of Zone I of Jam Gadang pedestrians area in January 2018.

Head of Tourism, Youth and Sports Office of Bukittinggi Erwin Umar, in Bukittinggi, Tuesday, said if the tender process runs smoothly then the construction of Zone I Pedestrians of Jam Gadang can begin in March 2018.

Zone I is starting from the front of Ateh Market shopping complex continues to the front of Bung Hatta Palace up to the front of Unknown Hero Monument.

For the projects in the zone, local municipal government cost Rp25 billion with one year's service.

He mentioned the most prominent improvement in the development of three means are performing arts and culture for small, medium and large scale with currently no facilities exist.

"With these tools, we hope that art and cultural activities become a place for the people in that field so that it can increase tourist visit," he said.

Other facilities include public toilets, parks, four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles, parking for tourist attractions, special pedestrians areas and water fountains.

Erwin explained the improvement done on the icon of the area, also involves Balin Heritage Preservation Hall (BPCB) of West Sumatra.

"We need to consider the impact of vibration from work so that it will not affect Jam Gadang," he said.

In addition to the zone I, there are still three other zones that will be addressed local government gradually.

"Zones II and III are Minangkabau Road to TMSBK and Benteng, Zone IV to Bawah Market", he added. (cha)
