Painan, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of South Pesisir District, West Sumatra is focusing on improving the quality of citrus in the area by 2018.

Head of the Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation Office, Jumsu Trisno in Painan, on Sunday said that the quality of citrus in the area is still low so it needs to be encouraged for quality improvement.

Improvement of quality, carried out by various efforts among others is done to provide training and field training to citrus farmers.

This is done because not all farmers have the knowledge and ability in conducting good cultivation to produce good production.

The training is given primarily on the way to apply technology in citrus planting, one of which is the utilization of organic pesticides.

Then, the provision of superior seeds and other things that can support the increasing quality of citrus in South Pesisir.

"So it is expected to increase production and produce citrus that have good quality," he said.

Based on data of 2016, citrus production in the area as much as 2,177 tons with a total harvest of 21,762 from the number of plants 20,176 trees, while in 2016 production reached 51,865 tons with 13,634 harvest trees.

The areas where citrus producers are located in Silaut Sub-district, Pancung Soal, Air Pura, Lengayang, Sutera, Batang Kapas, IV Jurai, Bayang, IV Nagari Bayang Utara and Koto XI Tarusan. (cha)
