South Solok Coffee Production Reaches 2,014 Ton

Padang Aro, (Antara Sumbar) - Coffee production in South Solok District in ten months in 2017 reaches 2,014 tons of dry beans with an area of 3,585 hectares.

"Coffee production from January to October 2017 is predicted at number of 1,776 tons of robusta type, while arabica 237.9 tons," Head of Plantation of South Solok Agriculture Service Wandra stated in Padang Aro on Thursday.

He said that the most suitable type of coffee developed in the district about 130 kilometers from the city of Padang is robusta, while for arabica can be in some locations only.

Most of the people grow Robusta coffee because it is suitable with climate in South Solok.

In terms of existing coffee farms today, robusta type is more dominate that is 3,127 hectares with 2,778 owners.

While the arabica type is only in 303 hectares area with 47 owners.

For arabica coffee, the height should be above 1,000 Mdpl and that is so limited location, he pointed out.

Throughout this year, it provides artificial coffee intensification assistance for three groups in Sangir Sub-district whose altitude is above 1,000 Mdpl.

The aid is also equipped with organic fertilizer 90 tons, cutting shears 200 units of pheromone 400 sets.

The aid comes from the National Budget (APBN) 2017 for 200 hectares of land.

Besides, Regional Budget (APBD) is also provided assistance for coffee farmers in the form of training cultivation cooperation with BPTP.

"We also make buildings for coffee processing equipment for farmers," he added. (cha)
