Thousands of Pesilats Follow Galanggang Siliah Baganti Festival

Batusangkar, (Antara Sumbar) - Thousands of pesilats (persons who do martial arts) from 14 sub-districts in Tanah Datar District, West Sumatra follow Galanggang Siliah Baganti (GSB) VIII festival held in Batipuh sub-district on December 18 to 20, 2017.

Chairman of the Committee of GSB VIII Afrizal in Batusangkar on Tuesday, said the activity aims to revive the traditional culture and facilities in the formation of silat groups in the area.

"Last year the event was followed by eight hundreds of fighters and this year thousands of fighters from 14 sub-districts are ready to compete," he added.

With the implementation of activity is expected to attract the attention of the silat enthusiasts from within and abroad.

"Through the activity, it is expected to attract the silat lovers who are interested in the flow of silat in Luhak Nan Tuo," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Association of Pencak Silat Indonesia (IPSI) of West Sumatra, Fauzi Bahar invite all parties to unite the determination to promote traditional silat in the district to nagari.

According to him, Tanah Datar is a warehouse of pesilat and has been the name of West Sumatra in the national and international even scene.

"In martial arts, it does not recognize the opponent, which is just a friend so that later if we continue to preserve it can foster a sense of brotherhood in the community and among the younger generation," he explained. (cha)
