Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - PT PLN of West Sumatra supports investment in the province in the form of ensuring electricity availability.

"Currently, West Sumatra has an excessive supply of electricity in an effort to fulfill the power load every month," General Manager of PLN of West Sumatra, Bambang Yusuf stated in Padang on Tuesday.

He mentioned that West Sumatra currently has an increasingly secure electricity supply, along with the entry of several electrical facilities that affect the amount of electric power coming in the province.

According to him, PLN is currently building several transmissions with a capacity of 275 kilovolts. The transmission line will be a distributor that connects several large and small power plants to be combined into a system that leads to the northern, central, and southern of Sumatera subsystems.

"In the West Sumatra, electricity system is in the central Sumatra subsystem, where the condition of the southern sub-sector of surplus and the north which initially deficit gradually became surplus," he explained.

So, if West Sumatra requires additional power can be obtained from northern and southern Sumatra.

"West Sumatra occupies a very strategic geographical location in Sumatra's electricity system so that such conditions can increase the toughness of electricity supply in this region," he said.

He explained that the location of power plants along Sumatra is currently mostly built in southern Sumatra.

The source of electricity from West Sumatra received from the southern electricity supply is 177.8 megawatts, while that is sourced from the total existing plant of 397.5 megawatts.

"So, one-third of the needs of West Sumatra are supplied from the electrical subsystem of southern Sumatra through transmission lines, arguably the current balance of power in West Sumatra surplus circumstances," he added. (cha)
