Padangpariaman Diverts Livestock of Pigs Into Ducks

Parit Malintang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Padangpariaman District, West Sumatra diverted pigs livestock which carried out by a number of Batang Anai District residents into ducks.

"There are 1,100 ducks that we give to 50 heads of households in the area as a substitute for pigs that they have been subjected to," Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Office of Padangpariaman District, Bustanil Arifin stated in Parit Malintang, Wednesday.

He said being a duck farmer is a citizen's choice when the local government has offered cattle and goats.

He said although there is no rule that prohibits pig farming but if it is done in the Muslim environment, then the management should be as good as possible.

But so far found some parts of the body of pig organs of processing waste discharged into the river that disturbs the Muslims in the area.

"In this case we as the government must find a way out so that this problem does not cause prolonged conflict," he said.

He mentioned the solution to solve the problem is by replacing the livestock with others and it is also approved by the breeder.

The replacement of pigs into the ducks goes to the district's program in helping local people to improve the economy.

"For the year 2017, there are two groups of farmers engaged in the business of livestock who get help," he said.

He mentioned the first aid is the replacement of pigs into ducks in Korong Tanjuang Basuang, Nagari Sungai Buluah, Batang Anai Sub-district.

Then, he continued in giving 35 goats in Korong Sungai Rantai, Nagari Sungai Sirah Kuranji Hulu in Sungai Geringging Sub-district.

If necessary, he said it is ready to help provide guidance for the care of the farm animals if the farmers need.

"Both aid has been handed over to farmers on Tuesday," he said.

He said the two groups receiving the aid came from 166 groups submitting proposals by 2017. (cha)
