W Sumatra PLN Allocates Rp236 Million to Preserve Turtle

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - PT PLN (Persero) of West Sumatra allocates Rp236 million for a social responsibility program or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to encourage marine ecosystem conservation, especially turtles.

"With this time, the number of turtles is decreasing, therefore we want to preserve one of the marine ecosystem in the PLN CSR program," General Manager of West Sumatra Region PLN Bambang Yusuf stated in Padang on Thursday.

In the program, West Sumatra PLN provides Rp236 million for the construction of turtle breeding houses, mosques, motorcycles, docks, location icons, and tourist destination gates on turtle conservation of Nagari Ampiang Parak, Sutera Sub-district, South Pesisir District.

According to him, turtle conservation in Ampiang Parak is one of the potential of tourist destinations to be developed so as to bring many benefits to the surrounding community.

"With the program, it is expected to help the improvement of surrounding community economy," he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant II of South Pesisir District, Emirda Ziswati appreciated the assistance provided by PLN for the development of turtle conservation, because it can help once in the prosperity of Ampiang Parak communities.

"We are very grateful for PLN assistance, it is expected that all people should be aware of the importance of preserving the environment," he added. (cha)
