Five Agam Sub-districts Prone To Landslides, Floods: BPBD

Lubukbasung, (Antara Sumbar) - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Agam District, West Sumatra reminded residents to be alert in five sub-districts prone to landslides and floods during high rainfall.

Head of Agam BPBD, Muhammad Lutfi AR accompanied by Head of Emergency and Logistics, Wahyu Bestari in Lubukbasung, Friday, said the five sub-districts which are prone to landslides and floods are Palembayan, Malalak, Matur, Palupuh and Tanjungmutiara.

He explained to anticipate the casualties, local BPBD has socialized to the community so as not to pass through the area during high rainfall.

Besides, local government is preparing 25 personnel of BPBD, members of disaster preparedness groups, heavy equipment and install an appeal to be careful when passing the area prone to landslides.

"The personnel and heavy equipment will be lowered if the area is hit by landslides and floods," he said.

He added that high rainfall hit the area at the end of November 2017, resulting in a number of points in Malalak Sub-district hit by landslide three times.

While in Palembayan, there are four incidents because of landslides.

"As a result of the incident, two people suffered severe and minor injuries caused by landslide in Malalak," he said.

Agam DPRD member Jondra Majaya gave appreciation to the government who has prepared personnel and heavy equipment in disaster prone areas.

By doing that way, riders and communities will be helped when disaster strikes the area.
