Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - Mayor of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra, Mahyeldi said the organization of Padang Indian Ocean Music Festival (PIOMfest) could be a place to recall the history of the area.
"Padang has always been famous as the busiest place in trade affairs and in direct contact with many countries in the world," Mahyeldi stated while opening PIOMfest 2017 in Padang, Friday night.
He said the people of Padang are open to every visitor and have interacted with migrants from many countries.
According to him, it is proven by the existence of at least 20trade representatives from around the world have been in the area.
In Padang there are Turkish Tombs, colonial-style Old Town architecture buildings, the existence of Chinese, Indians and Arabs are proof that Padang is already known by the outside world.
"The city of Padang has indeed triumphed in the field of trade by using sea lanes," he said.
He added that Padang is one of the important cities which is the gateway for the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
"PIOMfest 2017 is one of the contents that are included in IORA, in order to build communication and synergy between countries involved" he added. (cha)
