Cooperatives Need Innovation, Technology To Grow

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - Cooperative as a pillar of the Indonesian economy requires innovation and touch of information technology to be able to grow and help to improve member economics, West Sumatra Provincial Government officials said.

"There should be efforts to support other sectors and also use the technology," Provincial Secretary Ali Asmar stated while representing Governor Irwan Prayitno in Padang on Wednesday.

He said that when inaugurating the new building of UPTD Training Center and Cooperative of West Sumatra in Padang.

Ali pointed out for a cooperative that has members of farmers can develop business by providing products that support the needs of members such as fertilizer, seeds, and agricultural equipment.

The same is true of other cooperatives including sharia-based cooperatives which are quite abundant in West Sumatra.

The relevant Regional Device Organization (OPD) also has the responsibility to provide training and improvement of human resources to cooperative management in order to expand its business.

New building of UPTD Training Center and Cooperatives of West Sumatra newly inaugurated should be utilized as well as possible for the advancement of cooperatives in the area.

In addition, entering the era of cooperative globalization should also take part in implementing technology, such as online cooperatives.

"Now almost all fields are in touch with technology and cooperatives should not be outdated," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Department of Cooperatives and SMEs of West Sumatra, Zirma Yusri said UPTD Training and Cooperation Center aims to help develop cooperatives in the province.

"We are trying to train cooperative boards and managers in order to compete in the regions," he added. (cha)
