Bukittinggi, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra received assistance from the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of West Sumatra and Padang Government for Ateh Market fire victim.

Assistance received is Rp500 million from Baznas of West Sumatra and Rp100 million from Padang Basnaz and they are received in Bukittinggi, Tuesday.

Local Mayor M Ramlan Nurmatias said the aid was then handed over to Baznas Bukittinggi to be managed according to Islamic rules.

He said the aid would be beneficial to traders affected by Ateh Market blaze on October 30, 2017 which caused the building no longer be used for trading activities.

"The assistance as a manifestation of alm (zakat) function that has been channeled through society of Baznas, then it may be charitable and beneficial to all," he said.

West Sumatra Baznas Chairman Syamsul Bachri estimates that the aid could help to build 45 to 50 booths or shelter for traders who affected by fire.

"From the built of kiosk, it looks like a permanent building and we hope that traders will be able to sell as comfortably as they used to in the shops," he explained.

Meanwhile, Padang Mayor, Mahyeldi who are representing the handover of assistance from Baznas of Padang expects the funds can help to restore economic activity back in Bukittinggi.

Learning from the experience of market recovery in Padang affected by theearthquake a few years ago, according to Mahyeldi at that time communication between the municipal government with traders is not so smooth.

"After that we improve by establishing better communications because the market is a facility used by traders so building which is built should be as needed," he added. (cha)
