Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Malaysian government through Malaysia Tourism in Medan targets tourists from West Sumatra to the neighboring country by offering shopping tour packages titled "Malaysia Shopping Heaven 2017".

"We are cooperating with five travel agencies in West Sumatra to offer year-end shopping packages at affordable prices," Malaysia Tourism Director of Medan En Azhari Haron stated in Padang, Thursday.

According to him with the direct flight from Minangkabau International Airport to Kuala Lumpur every day will make it easier for tourists from West Sumatra who want to visit Malaysia.

He delivered Malaysia Shopping Heaven 2017 takes the theme "Shop and Fun" which offers shopping tours, treatment and recreation.

Azhari said in 2017 it held triple shopping event for three times, Malaysia Super Sale on March 1-31, Malaysia Mega Sale from June 15 to August 31 and Malaysia Year End Sale from November 1 until December 31.

"In Padang, we are working with Glorie Tour, Ero Tour, Ermi Tour, Bravo Tour and Anugerah Travel," he pointed out.

He mentioned the package price offered ranging from Kuala Lumpur tour for three days and two nights with a price of Rp1.2 million, Johor Baru Tour three days and two nights worth Rp2.3 million and Kuala Lumpur Sunway three days and two nights for Rp2 million.

Furthermore, Azhari mention during 2016 Malaysia able to reap 82.1 billion Ringgit Malaysia from tourist visit or rose 18,8 percent compared to 2015 which reached 69,1 billion Ringgit Malaysia.

Meanwhile, until August 2017 the number of tourist arrivals to Malaysia has reached 17.5 million people and from Indonesia is in second position after Singapore with the number of tourists visiting 1.8 million people.

Chairman of the Association of Travel Companies (ASITA) of W Sumatra, Ian Hanafiah said the current tourism sector to the attention of all parties.

"All countries are competing to attract tourists but things needed to be considered is how to meet the needs of tourists," he said.

He said that the current visit of Malaysian tourists to West Sumatra is also quite high revealed from the statement of the airline that states the seat occupancy rate average reach 90 percent.

"It means that if West Sumatra wants more tourists visited from Malaysia then it should improve infrastructure and facilities," he said.

He added that currently the trend of halal tourism and many countries in Southeast Asia seize the opportunity by providing the needs of Muslim tourists.

"It must be admitted that the number of tourists who come to Malaysia far more than those who visit West Sumatra," he added. (cha)
