Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra, seeks to attract private sector and foreign investors to invest in strengthening halal tourism in the area.

"The effort is done directly and not, so far there are some investors who are ready to invest," Padang Mayor Mahyeldi Ansharullah told in Padang on Friday.

While indirectly through the activities of festivals such as Qasidah Art Festival or Tour de Singkarak.

Some of the things that become the focus of investment include infrastructure, trade development and also strengthening human resources.

For the infrastructure there are some investors who will assist in building infrastructure in Padang tourism environment, for example the plan of building a "cable car" in the Integrated Tourism Area of Gunung Padang or rides games at Cimpago Beach and Muaro Lasak Padang.

"Last Thursday we just signed a memorandum of understanding with one of private companies from Java to strengthen the halal tourism," he said.

One of the focuses of the partnership is the strengthening of tourism industry as well as the opening of opportunities in tourism market development.

In addition, it also deals with market development for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Padang.

It is important considering that in the last three years the government has grown to more than seven thousand new entrepreneurs.

Even for this year nearly three thousand MSMEs grow in Padang, with the cooperation can help the expansion of its product market.

While Head of Tourism and Culture Medi Iswandi added investment for halal tourism is also focused on the development of culinary tourism.

According to him, Padang is currently optimizing restaurant recommended for tourists.

The number has more than 50 units, but it still needs to be improved and developed in line with the increasing number of tourists who come to Padang. (cha)
