PLN Spreads 54,000 Fish Seeds to Maninjau Lake

Lubukbasung, (Antara Sumbar) - State Electricity Company (PT PLN) of Bukittinggi Generation Sector, West Sumatra, spreads 54,000 fish seeds to Maninjau Lake, Agam District to preserve the native of volcanic lake.

The distribution of 50 thousand birds, two thousand and 2,000 birds was done by Agam Deputy Regent, Trinda Farhan Satria, Manager of PT PLN Persero of Bukittinggi Generation Sector Shodiqin, head of the Organization of Regional Devices (OPD), wali nagari and community leader in Taman Muko-muko, Tanjungraya Sub-district on Monday.

Manager of PT PLN Persero of Bukittinggi Generation Sector Shodiqin said the seeds of bada stocked fish from farmer groups built from LIPI Technical Implementation Unit of Technology Innovation Transfer Lake of the Institute of Sciences of Indonesia (LIPI) of Agam District. While the fish of nilem and gariang come from nurseries in Limapuluh Kota District.

"Before the distribution of these fish seedlings, we conducted a socialization about PLN's role in saving Lake of Maninjau," he said.

The distribution of fish seeds is done in order to preserve the diversity of Maninjau Lake.

Shodiqin mentioned the seed stocking as a form of corporate contribution in preserving endemic fish in the lake, because the endemic fish in the volcanic lake has already begun to become extinct.

For that, it hopes the community to keep the fish that can grow well in volcanic lake.

"This is the purpose of fish seedlings stocking in Lake of Maninjau and it hopes that people can take care of them," he said.

In addition to stocking fish seeds, in 2017 PT PLN also distributed seeds of avocado, durian and other types of plants. PLN also provided repair assistance for nine mosques spread across nine villages in Tanjungraya Su-district.

"The funding for the aid comes from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from PT PLN, which we will continue for next year," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Agam, Trinda Farhan Satria said the original lake fish that still exist as many as 14 of 34 species. While the other 20 species have gone extinct.

The 14 species of fish that survive are rinuak, bada, gupareh, asang, indigo, mas, cork, lobster and others.

He explained the 20 species of other fish such as species of betok, eel, cide-cide and other extinct or not found again in the waters of Maninjau Lake.

Extinction of the lake's native fish due to overfishing by fishermen, pollution and other fish prey.

"Tilapia, catfish and and cork are small fish predators," he added. (cha)
