London, (Antara Sumbar) - Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya promoted Wonderful Indonesia in London, England, from Westminster Abbey, Admiralty Arch, Trafalgar Square, and Borough Mark to the Indonesian Embassy in London by using a black cab in London, Sunday.

Indonesia has participated again in the 2017 World Trade Market (WTM) London, the second-largest international tourism market in the world, by promoting the Phinisi Ship and Uma Mbatangu, a traditional house of Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara Province.

WTM London will be held at ExCel London, England, on Nov 6-8.

On the sidelines of visiting Trafalgar Square to witness first-hand the tourism marketing performance in the second-largest travel mart in the world after ITB Berlin, Yahya stated that the idea of displaying the logo of Wonderful Indonesia on black cabs in London was quite unique and a smart strategy to promote Indonesian tourism, especially during the 2017 WTM London.

A car called a hackney carriage, or black cab, bore the design of Indonesia's mainstay tourist destinations, including Borobudur Temple, Bali, Komodo, Lake Toba, and Raja Ampat.

Meanwhile, Director of Marketing Communications Abroad of the Ministry of Tourism Noviendi Makalam informed Antara on Sunday that at least 180 black cabs have become popular icons in London City, England, to promote Indonesia's tourist destinations from Oct 16 to Nov 12.

In addition to black cabs being used to promote Indonesia's tourism destinations in London, the royal wedding of Indonesian President Joko Widodo's daughter Kahyang that will showcase six cultural processions on Wednesday will offer the necessary momentum. The marriage will be indirectly covered by domestic and foreign media.

Deputy of Tourism Marketing Development Abroad of the Ministry of Tourism I Gde Pitana stated that the ministry will also use 200 pedicabs to promote Pesona Indonesia during the marriage event to pick up guests from the parking area of Sumber Field and Banyuanyar Field, Solo, Central Java Province.

Minister Yahya said utilizing the momentum to give a good impression held potential to boost the branding of Wonderful Indonesia and Pesona Indonesia.

Moreover, some billboards bearing the image of Indonesia were placed at several strategic locations in London City, including at the Victoria Station and Borough Market.

In addition, television channels -- Sky News TV, Sky Sports, and Sky Arts -- are airing advertisements on Wonderful Indonesia in 420 spots since Nov 5.

Makalam said the promotion of the Wonderful Indonesia brand in various formats in London was expected to boost the image of Indonesian destinations among the British people and attract them to visit Indonesia. (*)
