Traders Expect Temporary Shelters Around Ateh Market Area

Bukittinggi, (Antara Sumbar) - Traders in Ateh Market, Bukittinggi, West Sumatra who affected by a fire on Monday (Oct 30) expect that temporary shelters will be provided around the market area.

At a merchant meeting with local government in Bukittinggi on Tuesday, several traders expressed hope to provide trading locations is still in Ateh Market area such as in front area of Jam Gadang, Minangkabau Street and Ahmad Yani Street.

According to one of the traders, Noviandi said the relocation should not be too far from the burning shops center.

He assessed despite the fire, people and tourists will still visit Ateh Market to look at market conditions, moreover the location is near to other tourism objects.

Another trader, Moli said she did not accept a shelter and was allowed to keep selling at hershop on the 1st floor that was not engulfed in flames.

During the meeting, another merchant on the 1st floor of Ateh Market shopping center also asked to be allowed to trade back in the original location and ask for clarity on the time used to re-enable the move.

The local government plans to provide shelters for traders on Perintis Kemerdekaan Street.

The local mayor, M Ramlan Nurmatias, said there were 1,124 merchants consisting of street vendors affected by fire.

He estimates the provision of a shelter on Perintis Kemerdekaan Street will take time in a matter of months.

"As soon as possible, the completed ones will be filled in. At least 2018 will be able to trade again," he said.

Currently the prepared step is the shelter will be in one location, not separate so as it will not seem chaotic.

"We want this city to stay comfortable," he added. (cha)
