SRG Festival To Be on Tourism Calendar: Legislator

Padang Aro, (Antara Sumbar) - Festival of Seribu Rumah Gadang (SRG) (thousand of Minangkabau traditional houses) in South Solok District, West Sumatra which is planned to be held on November 19 to 21, 2017 is expected to be on regional tourism calendar.

"We hope the festival can be nicely packaged so as to lure tourists to visit South Solok and become a tourism calendar," Vice Chairman of South Solok Parliament, Armen Syahjohan stated while being contacted in Padang Aro on Friday.

The Festival of SRG will be held to coincide with the grand event of racing Tour de Singkarak (TdS) 2017.

The festival, which is centered in SRG, Nagari Koto Baru, Sungai Pagu Sub-district, will be held to enliven the annual event of cycling race.

The first festival is planned to be assisted by national choreographer Hartati, who is the daughter of South Solok.

With careful preparation and involving professional human resources, it is expected that the festival can attract visitors and become entertainment for South Solok people.

He encouraged the local district government to hold travel agents considering the festival was held at a tourist attraction of the traditional village of Seribu Rumah Gadang.

The area has at least ten homestays by utilizing Minangkabau traditional house.

The Regent of South Solok, Muzni Zakaria said that the Festival of SRG is held before the Tour de Singkarak (TdS) enters South Solok on Wednesday (Nov 22), so the momentum will support each other.

This year's festival is the first stage of the series festival for subsequent years, he said.

"People are returning to their customary traditions," he noted.

A number of agenda have been planned for the festival among custom procession, welcoming of regent and tourist with music of Gandang Sarunai, Silek Luncua and Pasambahan.

Then "eat bajamba", the appearance of Randai, Saluang, Rabab, the original culinary exhibition of South Solok. (cha)
