Jakarta, (Antara Sumbar) - Indonesia's Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that development in digital economy could result in an economic democratization that would give equal opportunity for small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).

"SMEs will now be able to enter the platform. For that, they do not have to be big entrepreneurs with huge marketing cost," Sri Mulyani stated in a seminar here on Thursday.

However, producers should maintain the good quality of their products to meet consumers' demand, she noted.

"The platform could connect buyers and sellers; but producers must still be empowered," the minister added.

According to Sri Mulyani, the government has issued various policies to empower SMEs, including micro business loan (KUR), to give access to their funding.

KUR is aimed at empowering SMEs to develop their business with digital economy and promoting innovative products.

"We cannot forget that digital economy is a solution to all problems. The government has the role to empower them to have the capacity to join in the digital era," she remarked.

Digital economy could create shared prosperity, she pointed out.

"A healthy and fit economy would grow high, but it must be inclusive and involve as many Indonesians as it could," Sri Mulyani explained. (*)
