Parit Malintang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of Padangpariaman District, West Sumatra is preparing a proposal to the central government to renovate a number of traditional markets in the area.

"At least for the continuation of Sungai Geringging Market and Kampung Dalam market," Padangpariaman Regent Ali Mukhni stated in Parit Malintang on Monday.

He said that although Sungai Geringging community in his proposal asked for funds around Rp5.5 billion to renovate the market because it burned a year ago, but the regent assessed the amount of funds requested is still small.

"We want the market in Padangpariaman magnificent and good to attract community in shopping," he told.

In the re-drafting of the proposal, it involves related regional instruments to discuss the form of buildings and budgets.

"Then we submitted the proposal to one of the members of Parliament who is the son of Padangpariaman, John Kenedy Azis," he said.

According to him, the market renovation in the area is necessary because it can attract people to shop so that it will increase purchasing power, and increase economy level of traditional market traders in the area.

He hopes to the traders to maintain the hospitality, hygiene, and security of the market because it is a supporting factor so that people want to shop to market.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission VIII DPR RI from Golkar, John Kenedy Azis said he will continue to fight for the needs of West Sumatra people in central government.

"But I hope the merchants also want to maintain cleanliness as a market attraction," he said. (cha)
