Simpang Empat, (Antara Sumbar) - The government of West Pasaman District, West Sumatra set 14 days of emergency response related to flood disaster in Jorong Kampung Baru, Nagari (traditional village) Batahan which occurred on Monday (Oct 9) morning.

"Rightly, we set a 14-day emergency response period because the impact of floods is quite large," Head of West Pasaman Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Try Wahluyo stated in Simpang Empat, on Monday.

According to him, due to the flood, about 13 units of houses collapsed and damaged. Residents whose homes were damaged were forced to move to safer places.

"We will establish a public kitchen and tents as temporary shelters for flood victims," he said.

He said the team of BPBD together with related parties such as the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), police and TNI assisted by community are cleaning up the ruins of houses affected by floods.

"There is one housing unit that is moving to the middle of road due to the flooding," he said.

As a result, transportation flows in the area were cut off and resulted in long queues of vehicles unavoidable.

He mentioned that until now there are no casualties in the flood disaster. However, due to floods, damaged houses and agricultural land are also submerged in water.

According to him, the flood that hit Jorong Kampung Baru was caused by heavy rain that hit the area since Sunday (Oct 8) afternoon.

The incessant rain, then on Monday morning flood came suddenly and soaked the house residents with water levels about one meter.

As a result of water blow, about 13 units of houses of residents that are on the riverbank are collapsed and damaged. Currently the residents of house to temporarily move to a safer home.

Meanwhile, Head of Department of Food Crops of Horticulture and Animal Husbandry, Memi Zesmita said that his side immediately went down to the location of flood to record the total number of agricultural land damaged by flood.

Victims whose homes have collapsed are Zulkifli, Zulhendri, Khairani, Rudi Elvi, Zulkisman, Iyus, Ati, Upiak, Rudi Hartono, Lamek, Khairuddin, Tapa and Tono and Khairani Sihombing. (cha)
