Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of West Sumatra is providing Rp150 million through the provincial government for the Rohingya people who are being hit by humanitarian disasters in Myanmar.
"We hope the assistance can slightly ease their burden there," Chairman of West Sumatra Baznas, Syamsul Bahri Khatib stated Padang on Thursday (Sept 28).
He said that after giving the aid symbolically to Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Nasrul Abit in Padang.
According to him, the aid given is in the form of money to be more manageable. While the technical submission to arrive in Myanmar will be submitted to West Sumatera Provincial Government.
Vice Governor of West Sumatra Nasrul Abit appreciated the role of Baznas who always intervene to give such help when there is a disaster which is struck community, not only in but also outside the country.
He said the aid will be combined with the help that has been collected in a Bank Nagari account on behalf of the Caring Rohingya.
"Baznas aid is Rp150 million and it adds to the amount of donation of West Sumatra Caring Rohingya, currently it is collected about Rp750 million, excluding aid from Bank Nagari," he said.
Nasrul hopes there will be additional donations from donors, in addition to Bank Nagari to be collected at least Rp1 billion.
In order to make management easier, aid remains in the form of money handed over to the credible institution designated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Later, let this agency adjust the aid to the needs of Rohingya citizens in Myanmar or Bangladesh," he added. (cha)
