Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - Andalas University in Padang, West Sumatera Province, is promoting the development of technology-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to boost people's economy.

"MSMEs have an important role in the growth of the national economy. Therefore, academics need to promote technology-based businesses, so that they can grow and have more selling value," the Dean of the Faculty of Economy of Andalas University, Harif Amali Rivai, stated here on Wednesday (Sept 27).

The technology can be used to market the products online, which needs attractive images, engaging descriptions, and global network.

According to Harif, online marketing should continue to be done because it is more effective to reach and attract consumers than the conventional ways.

MSMEs, especially those in Padang City, are still conventional and informal. "Therefore, there has to be a change from the conventional and informal MSME to elevate their business forms through the use of technology," he noted.

Andalas University promotes technology-based MSMEs by organizing entrepreneurship center, business plan contests, and various other activities for the students.

"The students are expected to be the technology-based MSME players in Padang City," he explained. (*)
