Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Faculty of Nursing at Andalas University in Padang, West Sumatra, is introducing nursing methods in handling natural disasters during the Andalas International Nursing Conference (AINIC) being held on September 25-27, 2017, in Padang.

"The conference involves hundreds of national and international researchers in the field of nursing," Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Prof. Rizanda Machmud stated here, Monday (Sept 25).

He explained that a nursing system, including psychotherapy, holds significance, as West Sumatra Province is prone to natural disasters.

The conference addresses post-disaster management, particularly mental healthcare, he added.

According to Rizanda, a survey conducted by a psychiatric hospital in Padang indicated that several people were traumatized after the 2009 earthquake in Padang, most of whom were children exhibiting hyperactivity and parents experiencing forgetful behavior.

The conference offers a platform for learning and exchange of information in the field of nursing in the face of disasters.

"We also hope this conference would result in a formulation that can be taken into consideration for preparing a government policy," he stated.

Meanwhile, Leni Merdawati, the AINIC 2017 organizer, said 250 participants from Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, and Thailand are attending the event. (*)
