South Solok Sets Seven-days Emergency Response Period Related to Floodwaters

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - Government of South Solok District, West Sumatra sets seven-days emergency response period related to floodwaters that hit Nagari Pakan Rabaa Tangah on Thursday (Sept 14) night.

"The emergency response period begins today and we are now preparing for the administration," Head of Prevention and Preparedness of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Solok, Rusdi Harmen stated when contacted at Padang Aro on Friday (Sept 15).

He mentioned the flood-affected 571 inhabitants from 190 heads of households in four jorong Nagari Pakan Rabaa Tangah, Koto Parik Gadang Diateh Sub-district. Food and clothing as their homes were flooded up to one meter.

"We have given food aid this morning and afternoon, and in the afternoon we will build a public kitchen in Koto Parik Gadang Diateh Sub-District Office," he said.

He said the local government had applied rice to Bulog Padang and has been shipped 1.2 tons of rice now.

Local government through local PDAM has also distributed clean water for flood victims in Jorong Bancah Anak Lolo, Lolo Atas, Batu Kulambai, and Batang Lolo.

"Clean water has been distributed by PDAMs and health posts have been established in flood locations," he said.

People affected by floods that occurred around 09.00 p.m. refuge to houses of neighbors and their families who are not affected by flooding.

The flash floods that hit the area damaged some infrastructure, rice fields, PDAM network and residents' homes.

Data from Regional Disaster Management Agency, houses affected by the flood were 138 units, 42 of them incurred serious damage, six suffered moderate damage, and 90 were slightly damaged.

The local government has deployed officers to help residents in cleaning up houses submerged in mud. The Ministry of Social Affairs is also on his way to South Solok to review the flood victims. (cha)
