Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) of Padang, West Sumatra is targeting the newbie voters at senior high school level for Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in 2018.
"These early voters often do not exercise their voting rights during the elections, so that our target to capture voters in 2018 election," Coordinator of Padang Socialization Division, Yusrin Trinanda stated in Padang, Tuesday (Aug 29).
According to him, there are several steps that are implemented to target the beginning voters, among others by holding a democracy jamboree with high school students in Padang and socialization in social media.
Then lowered the KPU commissioners to schools as the builders of flag ceremony to socialize the importance of electoral participation to the students.
"We think these activities for beginners are quite effective and attract their attention to utilize the right to vote properly," he said.
Electorate voters in 2018 Pilkada are those who are 17 years old at the time of elections held on June, 27, 2018.
In addition, he continued socialization is not only at high school level students, but also among students in Padang, because it is also possible to become a novice voter.
"We are seeking the data of this voter as much as possible and in addition to the socialization, KPU held face to face with the public," he said.
He said that beginner voters need to get right political education because they are the assets of the nation in the future and are expected to use their right of voice wisely.
Padang together with Sawahlunto, Pariaman and Padang Panjang City will hold a concurrent elections in 2018.
Earlier, Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tjahjo Kumolo, hoped that the third stage of 2018 election could take place smoothly, considering that the third stage of election was very close to legislative and presidential election. (cha)
