Padang Aro, (Antara Sumbar) - Speaker of the parliament of South Solok, West Sumatra, Sidik Illyas said the nickname of "Seribu Rumah Gadang (thousand of Minangkabau traditional houses)" (SRG) should be a trademark of the district's tourism so it should be more developed and styled to attract more tourists to visit.

"By the convening of SRG Festival, it makes South Solok increasingly famous and SRG can be a trademark of our tour," he said in Padang Aro, Monday related to SRG Festival on November 19 to 21, 2017.

The SRG Festival, which is centered in the traditional village tourism destination of Seribu Rumah Gadang, was officially opened by South Solok Regent Muzni Zakaria on Sunday (Nov 19).

The opening of the festival featuring traditional, cultural and traditional culinary of South Solok begins with an indigenous procession followed by bundo kanduang of 11 nagari (traditional village) in Sungai Pagu Sub-district.

Sidik mentioned himself with other parliament leaders are supporting and encouraging the local government to continue to organize and promote the destination that is currently being developed.

Besides, SRG festival can be an annual agenda and continuous improvement so that it can become a national event and attract tourists to visit the district which is bordering with Kerinci, Jambi.

"The festival is the door of a promotion to introduce trademark of South Solok," he said.

Meanwhile, South Solok Regent Muzni Zakaria mentioned the festival in addition to enliven the international event Tour de Singkarak, also to revive the customs, culture, and traditions that exist in the area.

"In the area, it turns out to have a variety of customs, cultures and traditions that can be a tourist attraction," he said.

The customs, culture, and traditions that are still alive and become a habit of the people of South Solok such as wedding and death procession, tradition of planting rice (down to rice field), until the tradition of welcoming the birth of a child.

"Packaging cultural tourism destinations can increase tourist visits to South Solok so that people's economy can be boosted," he added. (cha)
